Chelsea Sugrue, Grade 5 Teacher

I am so excited to be teaching grade five at Living Waters this year. My family and I have decided to follow God’s call and move to Spruce Grove from Vancouver Island this summer, as my husband has accepted a ministry job in the new WECA chapel in West Edmonton Mall. We are filled with excitement and anticipation of what our new life in Spruce Grove will bring.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Education degree from Vancouver Island University in 2007. During my years of teaching, I have had the incredible opportunity to teach kindergarten to grade eight students at a variety of schools. I love teaching. There is no other career I would rather have and I feel very blessed to be able to say this. My love and passion of music and performance has also allowed me the opportunity to be creative in both a professional and personal manner and I have enjoyed watching my students grow in confidence while developing a passion for the arts.

I really love being able to teach in a Christian environment. It allows me to be able to encourage my students mentally, emotionally and spiritually. One of my favourite aspects of being a Christian educator is being able to dig deep during devotions and other classroom discussions and talk about how building a rich and wonderful relationship with Jesus impacts every area of our lives. It’s incredible how simple it is to see God’s hand in everything we do and learn in the classroom. My ultimate goal as a Christian educator is to love my students and show them Christ's love through educating them and building relationships with them to develop them, so that they will become contributing members of school, family and community.

Outside of the classroom, I love to spend time with my husband and my two wonderful children, Cohen, who will be attending Kindergarten at LWCA this year and my one-year-old daughter, Hailey. We love to go swimming together, have movie nights, go to the lake or river for picnics and attend various community events. I also love to sing, perform in musical theatre, plan parties, watch movies and cross-stitch. I know that there will be so much for our family to do and enjoy in our new city and I look forward to exploring all that Spruce Grove has to offer!
